Good vision for life: How nutrition plays a crucial role in improving eyesight

Good nutrition is imperative for leading a healthy life. Like any other body organ, eyes are dependent upon healthy nutrition including micronutrients, vitamins and minerals to nurture their health and ensure proper functioning. Thus, whatever we eat affects the health of our eyes in some manner.

Various eye-related disorders can be cured by proper nutrition. However, eye diseases also impact an individual’s quality of life directly. Today, we will share an overview of eye-related issues and ways to take good care of your eyes.

  • Night blindness is a medical condition related to degeneration of night vision that could also lead to total blindness in worst cases. Lack of Vitamin A (found in spinach, carrots, broccoli and other vegetables) can lead to such ailments.
  • Cataract is an illness related to the lens of the eye that leads to increased opaqueness, if not treated it turns out to be a case of complete blindness. The risk of developing cataract is majorly dependent upon nutritional factors and antioxidant consumption. Inadequate intake of micronutrients, Vitamin A and C is likely to develop Cataract eyes. To nurture them, food items like citrus fruits, tomatoes, strawberries, and broccoli are recommended.
  • Omega-3 is the vital fatty acids that enhances functioning of eyes in numerous ways. It reduces the symptoms of dry eye syndrome to prevent any damage. Foods like Peanuts, Peas, Walnuts, Kidney Bean and almond play a significant role to improve eyesight condition.
  • Additionally, consumption of zinc with vitamin A helps in reducing the chances of night blindness.

There is no replacement for eyes with clear vision. Adding nutrients to your regular diet in form of foods or supplements can prevent your vision from any sort of ailments.
