Top 3 healthy modak recipes that will add more love to your celebrations

Say Ganpati Bappa Morya and seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha this festive season. And, the one thing that our festivals can’t be complete without, are the sweets. You sure want to gorge on those modaks, don’t you?
However, what needs complete attention along with the modaks is your health. While there are plenty of options that you can buy from the market, it is always beneficial to prepare them at home using specific ingredients that are good for health. For instance, using ghee is a better idea compared to artificial oils that are usually used in the markets.

Here are a few healthy modak recipes that you can opt for and enjoy taste and health together.

1) Moongdal Ragi Modak

A modak recipe that will offer you amazing taste and yet be very light on your stomach, here are the ingredients you need for moongdal modak.

– 1 ¼ Cup Of Moongdal Flour (Green Gram)
– ¼ Cup Ragi Flour (Finger Millet)
– ½ Cup Of Water
– 1 Cup Of Sugar
– ½ Tsp Cardamom Powder
– Dry Fruits Finely Chopped For Garnish

 

Method:

Heat water and sugar in a pan on medium heat while stirring continuously to form a sugar syrup. Add cardamom for flavor let it cool.
Add ghee, moongdal flour and ragi flour to another pan on medium heat and roast the mixture on low heat.
Mix the roasted material with the sugar syrup, milk powder and knead to form a dough
Make small pedas from the dough, use moulds to give it the shape of modaks. Serve with garnishing.

2) Beetroot modak

Although it might sound a little weird, you can actually use beetroot to make modaks that will give you an amazing flavor. Also, this modak recipe will not compromise on your health at all.

Ingredients

– 1 Cup Grated Beetroot
– 3 Tbsp Sugar
– Orange Rind As Per Taste
– 2 Cups Rice Flour
– Ghee as per taste
– 1 Cup Water
– Salt as per taste

Method

Mix beetroot and sugar in a bowl and keep aside.
Boil 1 cup of water in another pan. Once the water is boiled, add 2 cups of rice dough while stirring to form dough like consistency.
Cool the rice dough and divide it into small balls.
Make cavities in these balls and add the beetroot sugar mixture.
Mould into the shape of modaks and roast in a steamer for 8 – 10 minutes.
Serve hot with warm ghee and orange rind.

3) Sugar-free modaks

Presenting to you, the modkas you had been waiting for all this while. A modak recipe that will let you enjoy the sweetness without the calories. Here are the ingredients.

– 2 Cups soft Deseeded Dates or Dried Figs (anjeer)
– 1 Cup assorted nuts (almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios
– Hazelnut or raisins or cashew nut for stuffing
– ½ Tsp Poppy Seeds roasted
– 1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
– 1 Tbsp Desiccated Coconut
– 1 Tsp Ghee + for greasing

Method

  1. Grind the dates in a mixer. Chop nuts into small pieces, roast them on a low flame.
  2. Make a mixture of chopped nuts, poppy seeds, dates, ghee and cocoa powder to make a thick mixture.
  3. Fill half of the mould with the mixture and half of it with the date-nut mixture. Add hazelnut or cashews at the center.
  4. Make modaks, sprinkle them with coconut powder and serve.
