Early pregnancy symptoms before missed period
1. Sore breasts
Breast tenderness is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy because of the increased level of progesterone in the body. The breasts will be tender and heavier than usual. One may even experience slight pain upon touching them. While this symptom is not unlike the PMS symptoms, the only difference is that in case of pregnancy, the pain still remains even after your missed period.
This is a common symptom especially during the initial months of pregnancy. It is due to the changes in hormones of our body and lowered blood sugar and blood pressure levels.
3. Nausea, Morning sickness and Vomiting
Nausea, morning sickness and nausea usually start between fourth and sixth weeks of pregnancy due to the inrush of new pregnancy hormones in the body. But the feeling of nausea can also be symptomatic of PMS.
4. Cervical mucus
You may notice an increased vaginal discharge during early stages and this will continue throughout the pregnancy as the cervix softens. During the first trimester, you secrete pale, yellow and sticky mucus-like thing. This is because of the increase in hormones and vaginal blood flow.
5. Slight bleeding before your missed period
At times, an appearance of spotting or vaginal bleeding is noticeable as early pregnancy symptoms which is also known as ‘implantation bleeding’. This occurs as the fertilized egg gets attached to the lining of the uterus after 10-14 days of fertilization. Unlike our usual periods, this kind of bleeding is lighter in colour and doesn’t last long. Some women also experience cramping along with bleeding.
6. Increase in basal body temperature (BBT)
BBT is the temperature of our body when it is fully at rest and this is usually taken after we wake up in the morning. An elevation in BBT for 18 days or more following ovulation can be indicative of pregnancy but this is most effective if you have been keeping track of your BBT for a while.
7. Frequent urination
During pregnancy, there will be increased amount of blood pumped and this results in the kidneys producing more fluids which in turn causes more fluids in the urinary bladder. Frequent need to urinate can be an early symptom of pregnancy and this can appear as early as the second or third week of pregnancy.
Spotting is viewed as a light measure of pink, red, or dull earthy colored (rust-shaded) blood. You may see spotting when you use the bathroom or see a couple of drops of blood on your clothing. It will be lighter than your menstrual period. There won’t be sufficient blood to cover an underwear liner.
Spotting during the initial trimester might be credited to:
- implantation bleeding
- ectopic pregnancy
- obscure causes
Cramping during pregnancy is frequently unnerving, yet it’s a typical side effect through all trimesters. Most spasms aren’t hazardous; truth be told, squeezing is the uterus’ reaction to pretty much whatever’s transpiring. Mostly the cramps aren’t often dangerous. Cramping is just a way of uterus’s response to just about anything happening to it.
There are various types of cramping during trimester of pregnancy
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Round ligament pain
- Braxton Hicks contractions
- Placental abruption
- Labor contractions
10. Missed period during early pregnancy
When implantation is finished, your body will start delivering human constant gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone enables the body to maintain the pregnancy. It likewise advises the ovaries to quit delivering developed eggs every month. You will probably miss your next period a month after conception. If you have an unpredictable period, you’ll need to take a pregnancy test to affirm. Confirm with pregnancy test, if you have an irregular period.
11. Increased heart rate
Due to hormones your heart may begin to pump faster and harder. Palpitation and arrhythmias are common in pregnancy. Increase in blood flow happens later in the pregnancy.
12. Mood swing during early pregnancy
Mood changes during pregnancy can be caused by physical anxieties, weakness, changes in your digestion, or by the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Changes in your hormone levels can influence your degree of synapses, which are cerebrum synthetics that control state of mind.
You may have constant worries that contribute to your mood swings such as:
- Do I have a financial backup or not?
- Will I be prepared after the baby is born?
- Will I be a good parent?
- Concerns about babies’ health?
13. Weight gaining as an early symptom
Weight gain is a common symptom among pregnant ladies. This often spreads out between the breasts, uterus, placenta, amniotic fluid.
From the first stage in pregnancy, your body delivers a lot of the hormones progesterone and relaxin, which will in general loosen up smooth muscle tissues all through your body, incorporating those in your gastrointestinal (GI) plot. Therefore, food sometimes moves all the more gradually through your framework, bringing about acid reflux issues of numerous types, from that enlarged, gassy inclination to indigestion.

Many of the skin changes are attributed to the influx of hormones. These hormones cause your glands to produce more oil, which makes your face shinier. This may also lead to acne in your skin.

Pregnancy symptoms vary from person to person and they can also be easily confused with PMS. Hence it is not advisable to rely on the symptoms alone: one should rather consult a doctor or take home pregnancy test.
