Curable or not, going an extra mile to stay immune against COVID- 19 won’t hurt!
Call it nature’s retaliation or an unfortunate circumstance, the past couple of months has witnessed the outbreak of a lethal virus which currently doesn’t seem to have any cure. The number of reported illnesses seems to be increasing with each passing day and the most we can do is take precautionary measures such as frequent hand-wash and donning face masks. Other than these things, there is nothing much we can do.
With that said, many a time, you may have wished there were foods that could shield your body from coronavirus. Our immune system is a complex network of cells, organs and tissues that provides resistance to our body against any illnesses and infection. While there is no definite food or pill that is guaranteed to protect you from the virus, you can always give your body a chance to remain safe from a disease the symptoms of which are similar to the flu.
- Vitamin D supplements – Many studies have shown Vitamin D level to be linked with your respiratory health and the deficiency of it has shown to increase the risk of respiratory tract infections and illnesses. Additionally, vitamin D produces antimicrobial proteins (which are largely active in the respiratory tract) that kill viruses and bacteria, the lack of which can make you more susceptible to infection. Considering the fact that COVID-19 typically attacks the respiratory parts, it is advisable to take food that are rich in Vitamin D to immunise your body from the virus.
- Vitamin C – Even though there is no evidence to back this, intake of vitamin C is said to treat flu-like symptoms such as cough and cold.
- Healthy diet and enough sleep – Adopting a better sleep habit is a great way to boost your immune system. It is evident from various researches and studies that sleep deprived people tend to have a suppressed immunity. Other than that, maintaining a healthy diet and performing regular exercises can help you acquire a strong immune system and ward off the deadly coronavirus.
In addition to these, natural remedies such as drinking boiled ginger, citrus fruits, turmeric, oregano oil and bone broth are being much touted for their immune-strengthening properties. However, it is to be noted that while it is advisable to take supplements or food rich in Vitamin C and D, an excess of anything can prove hazardous for your health.
